What are Far Far West spell reactions?

Verified

Far Far West has 19 confirmed elemental reactions (also called spell combos) across 5 schools. Acid + Elec produces Multi-Geyser, More Bubble, or Lightning Strikes; Acid + Pyro produces a Fire Tornado or Exploding Geyser; any Acid surface + Voodoo spawns Healing Candles. The full 5×5 matrix and citation sources are below.

How do spell reactions work in Far Far West?

Every reaction is a setup-and-trigger pair. One spell places a lingering surface, summon, or puddle; a second spell contacts it to produce a named outcome that is bigger than either spell alone. Order matters — Bubble + Firebeam makes a Tornado, but Firebeam + Bubble does not.

Which special-case reactions don't fit the matrix?

A handful of reactions accept any spell of a given type as the trigger — so they sit outside the 5×5 grid. Portal Duplicator is the headline case: it duplicates anything you cast through it, regardless of element.

Which three reactions should beginners learn first?

If you only memorize three combos, learn these. They show up in most named builds on the Best Builds guide.

  1. Bubble + Firebeam → Fire Tornado. Most reliable single combo. Throw Bubble first so the puddles seed, sweep Firebeam through the cloud. The tornado drifts and keeps damaging things you didn't aim at.
  2. Acid Rain + Strikes → Lightning Strikes. Wave-clear button. Land Rain on a chokepoint, fire Strikes once. Auto-tracking lightning handles the rest of the wave.
  3. Any Voodoo spell on an Acid puddle → Healing Candles. The most reliable self-sustain in the game and the entire reason "put one Acid spell in every build" is good advice. The candles are visible on the ground; walk over them.
FAQ

Spell reactions — frequently asked questions

What is a spell reaction in Far Far West?

A reaction is a named outcome triggered when one spell hits a surface, summon, or puddle left behind by another spell. The first spell is the setup; the second is the trigger. There are 5 elemental schools — Pyro, Acid, Elec, Voodoo, and Cactus — and roughly 9 distinct named reactions produced by 19 specific spell pairs.

How do I trigger Multi-Geyser?

Cast Geyser (Acid) onto an existing Strikes (Elec) lightning puddle. The Geyser spawns 3 additional acid geysers along the strike line, electrifying and corroding a wide radius. This is the highest-impact Acid + Elec interaction in the game.

Which combo should beginners learn first?

Bubble (Acid) + Firebeam (Pyro) → Fire Tornado. It is the most reliable single combo: throw Bubble first so the acid puddles seed, then sweep Firebeam through the cloud. The tornado drifts independently and keeps damaging things you didn't aim at — high payoff for one reaction memorized.

What's the difference between setup and trigger?

Setup is the spell that lingers — a puddle, a summon, a deployable. Trigger is the spell that contacts that lingering object to fire the named reaction. Cast setup first, then trigger. Reactions are usually one-directional: Bubble + Firebeam makes a Tornado, but Firebeam + Bubble does not — the Bubble has to be on the ground first.

Are these reactions confirmed by the developer?

Reactions in this chart are confirmed by ≥ 2 independent public-web write-ups per outcome (KeenGamer, Destructoid, AllThings.how, GAMES.GG, Dot Esports, Steam Community guides). A small number of contradictory community claims — like Strikes + Bubble splitting into bouncing copies — are excluded because the sources disagree. See the Sources block on each detail card for verification.

What does Portal Duplicator do?

Any spell card thrown directly through an active Portal (Elec) is duplicated into two identical casts. It applies to any spell — not just one element pair — so it sits in the Special section below the matrix instead of inside a single 5×5 cell.

Where do Charged Cactus reactions come from?

Any of the 5 Cactus summons (Mino, Pistolero, Wallo, Decoyo, Bandito) struck by a Pyro spell becomes a Fire-charged summon; struck by an Elec spell becomes Elec-charged. The summon inherits burn or chain-lightning damage on its attacks for the duration. 10 reactions in total (5 summons × 2 elements) collapse to two named outcomes.
