Desert difficulty & progression

Desert is in the starter rotation, so you can drop in straight from the first lobby visit. The Desert secret mission rewards the Cactus Day Joker, tracked in the Challenges board as "Complete secret mission (Desert)". Most players run it once for the reward and then revisit the map only for grave clears or contracts. Clearing every grave in Desert feeds the "Release all souls (Desert)" Gravekeeper challenge (1,000 Souls); soul totals accumulate across runs.

Desert secret mission — step by step

Entry point

Interact with any cactus in the Desert biome to trigger the Cactus Day quest.

Step-by-step walkthrough

  1. Six parent cacti (circle markers) and six child cacti (X markers) spawn across the Desert map.
  2. Open the map, identify which child belongs to which parent before you pick anything up.
  3. Walk a child cactus over to its matching parent. You cannot ride your horse while carrying one.
  4. Repeat for all six pairs. Progress does not carry between runs — finish in a single session.

Estimated time · 10–14 minutes per attempt with a marked map.

Common pitfalls

  • Mismatching a child to a wrong parent wastes time; verify on the map before pickup.
  • Combat trash mobs spawn along delivery paths — clear ahead of the carry.

Desert FAQ

Do I need to unlock Desert in Far Far West?

No. It's the tier-2 middle starter — picked when Far West feels under-paced but Canyon's chokepoints still kill your build. No challenge or questline gate.

How do I complete the Desert secret mission?

Interact with any cactus in the Desert biome to trigger the Cactus Day quest. Six parent cacti (circle markers) and six child cacti (X markers) spawn across the Desert map. Open the map, identify which child belongs to which parent before you pick anything up. The full reward is the Cactus Day Joker. Detailed step-by-step is laid out further down this page.

How hard is Desert in Far Far West?

Desert is difficulty tier 2 of 5 — early-game pacing. Tier 2 sits between the tutorial regions and the late-game grind — a fair test of whether a new build holds together.

Which bosses spawn on Desert?

Cryptic Saloon. Boss arenas are separate from the standard contract flow — beat one, restart the contract, beat it again for blueprints. Each named Cryptic boss has its own dedicated page on this site with HP, attack patterns, recommended weapons, and immunities.

What does the Desert Gravekeeper challenge reward?

1,000 Souls for clearing every grave on Desert. Soul totals accumulate across runs — you can complete this incrementally rather than in one session.
